Test Erectile Dysfunction

Most men find themselves unable to get erection from time to time. However such single cases are not to be treated as erectile dysfunction as it may happen due unsatisfactory psychological conditions, temporal disorders, bad mood or conflicts with a partner. If you fail to get erection in 25% of all cases you need to consult your doctor.

The first step in erectile dysfunction diagnosis is to examine your symptoms and health history. The doctor will ask you about how often you fail to maintain erection, when all that started, when you are able and when you are unable to get erection, whether you have problems in relationships, etc.
Then the examination of physical condition follows. The doctor will study your history of diseases to evaluate how much you are inclined to have health problems. A lot attention will be paid to your recent psychological and physiological state. The thing is that causes of erectile dysfunction include psychological and physiological factors thereby your body’s and mind’s well being is checked completely.

If the doctor suspects that physical issues are the cause you will be recommended to undergo blood tests to check:
the level of cholesterol, iron and sugar in the blood (to identify diabetes and other diseases if present)
to count the number of red and white cells (to make sure leukemia and anemia is not involved)
to measure the level of male hormones and identify hormone imbalance if present.

If any of the malfunctions listed above is present the doctor will suggest that you should check for vascular diseases, kidney diseases, liver diseases and other as all these may influence your erectile function.

The doctor will check the sensitivity of the penis by simple touching different areas and make sure nerve ending perform their function properly.
Several specialized tests may be performed for further examination:
Ultrasound is the test to diagnose erectile dysfunction by evaluating the blood flow to the penis with the help of ultrasound. The doctor gets the image that shows whether or not the blood flow is impaired. Ultrasound is usually performed at the beginning of erectile dysfunction treatment course and later to observe the changes in blood circulation.
Neurological evaluation assesses possible nerve damages.
Nocturnal tumescence tests measure nocturnal erections that are naturally happen in men to find out whether the cause of impotence is psychological or physiological. If the male has nocturnal erection the cause is likely to be psychological.
